Ashtanga Yoga in the tradition of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois is a system founded on “Vinyasa”, a precise order of breath-synchronized-movement.

There are three groups of sequences: the Primary series (yoga chikitsa) detoxifies and aligns the body, the Intermediate series (nadi sodhana) purifies the nervous system by opening and clearing the energy channels.

The Advanced series A,B,C,D (sthira bhagah samapta) integrate the strength and grace of the practise, requiring higher levels of flexibility and humility.

Breath is at the heart of the practise. Using “ujjayi pranayama” and “bandha” (uddiyana bandha and mula bandha) an intense internal heat is produced leading to a process of purification of muscles and internal organs, with a positive effect on blood and hormone circulation, as well as the elimination of toxins with perspiration.

With the practice of a precise breathing technique, the correct performance of (Asana) postures, and the use of the (Dristi) gazing point, this is a complete practise that has a profound effect on the physical-mental-spiritual levels.
